The bench and street light are for two groups of folks. After dark, some travelers sit and wait in the light for a stagecoach after the station closes. Also, Liberty Falls is a mining town – see that one sign says "to the mines"—they're farther down the road you came in on. Miners also rest here on their walk back to town after work in the evening, or they gather in the morning before dawn. So the seat and light are handy. We're going to follow the sign "to town".
